Biography 

Anggun is an Indonesian and French-naturalized singer, songwriter, producer, television personality, businesswoman,  philanthropist, a mother and much more… She’s simply a SUPERWOMAN!

She was born in Jakarta, and currently lives in Paris. She began performing at the age of seven and recorded a children’s album two years later. Her single “Mimpi” (1989), was listed as one of the 150 Greatest Indonesian Songs of All Time by The Rolling Stone. Anggun left Indonesia in 1994 to pursue an international career in France. She released her first international album, “Snow on the Sahara” (1997), and it became the best selling album by an Indonesian artist of all time. This album spawned her international signature hit “Snow on the Sahara”, which reached number one in several countries and charted on the Billboard Charts. Since her international breakthrough, Anggun has released six studio albums in English and French, as well as a soundtrack. She is one of the best Asian vocalists ever, and she possesses a three-octave contralto voice, which has been described as “deep”, ”husky”, “soulful”, and “distinctive”. Billboard commented: “Vocally, Anggun is a fortress of power, easing from a delicate whisper into a brand of cloud-parting fortitude commonly associated with grade-A divas and she is gifted with a warm, full voice that can tackle slight pop songs without overpowering them as well as swoop with depth and ease over heavier emotional numbers.”

Anggun is the first Indonesian-born artist to break into the European and American markets. Her albums have been certified gold and platinum in many countries. She became the best selling Asian artist outside of Asia and the best selling Indonesian artist of all time.

She has received numerous awards for her achievements, including the prestigious Chevalier des Arts et Lettres from the French Minister of Culture, Key to the City award from the Mayor of Florence, Anugerah Planet Muzik’s International Breakthrough Artist Award, and a World Music Award.

Aside from her musical career, Anggun has been involved in numerous environmental and humanitarian works. She has been appointed as the global ambassador of the United Nations twice, first for the International Year of Microcredit in 2005, and then for the Food and Agriculture Organization in 2009. She also became the ambassador of charity organization La Voix De l’Enfant (The Voice of the Children) in 2015.

Anggun represented France in Eurovision 2012. She also was one of the judges in the hit show X-Factor Indonesia in 2013, in Indonesia’s Got Talent in 2014, in Asia’s Got Talent in 2015, which she became the highest paid judge in Indonesia’s TV history.

Anggun was on the FHM magazine’s list of 100 Sexiest Women in the World. She’s been featured on Vogue Magazine twice. She released a perfume called “Grace”. Harper’s Bazaar Indonesia honored Anggun as one of 15 Most Inspiring Women.

She became the first Indonesian woman to be immortalized in a wax figure by Madame Tussauds. She can sing in more than 8 languages: Indonesian, English, French, Spanish, Italian, Russian, Javanese, and Sundanese. Her hit single ‘Saviour’ was used as one of the soundtracks of the number-one hit film Transporter 2. Celine Dion covered one of Anggun’s songs called “Tu Nages”.

In 2011, She performed for 1 million people in Paris for the SOS Racisme Concert. She’s the only Asian artist to perform for the pope, and the only Asian artist to perform at Verona Arena, Italy, which was built in the 1st century. She also has collaborated with many legends, including Julio Iglesias, Peter Gabriel, Charles Aznavour and Celine Dion.
